PROJECT NAME

Eikon Trading Platform

ROLE

Thomson Reuters,

Head of Interaction Design

— DATE

2012 – 2016

I led a team of 12 designers in the growth and development

of the Thomson Reuters (Now Refinitiv) Eikon Platform (direct competitor to the Bloomberg Terminal).

We conducted research, designed and built financial tools to help traders, analysts, and fund managers to make mission-critical and informed decisions across the top banks and financial institutions across the globe. Covering specific financial sectors such as investors, foreign exchange, fixed income, commodities & energy, and equities.

Cross platform

We built Eikon to work across all form factors from trader platforms of 8+ screens to tablets and mobile devices – not just mirroring the functionality, but understanding why and what users needed when using moving between devices

Layout and alignment

With so much data shown on a single screen, the importance of being able to scan information at speed is paramount – we carried out extensive research on fundamentals such as font selection and table layout, alignment and functionality

Smart modules

Eikon was made up of 1000s of different financial instruments and products, each product needed to work standalone, but were designed with the ability to connect to each other and pass data and context from one another

Playful interaction

In a data-dense environment it is important to give the user the right tools to explore scenarios and discover valuable insight – in this example the user can easily manipulate the heat map parameters to find patterns and outliers
